SOUTHFIELD FARM LEGBOURNE ROAD, LOUTH

Public Consultation

Lindum Group is inviting your comments on the proposals for a sustainable development of up to 335 new homes to provide much needed housing for residents of Louth and East Lindsey.

The Vision

The scheme will provide a high-quality and attractive housing development that complements Louth’s character, while providing new green spaces and improved connections for residents. The scheme will:

  • Deliver up to 335 new homes, including affordable housing to meet local needs.
  • Provide safe and convenient vehicular, pedestrian, and cycle connections.
  • Create new public open space and a children’s play area.
  • Deliver a sustainable drainage system that works with natural features and provides biodiversity benefits.
  • Involve complete relocation of Laughton’s Southfield Farm Cattle Operation.

The Site and Surroundings

The site comprises approximately 14.49 hectares of agricultural land, currently used for cattle rearing by Laughton’s of Louth. To the north, the site adjoins the recently completed Linden Homes development on Legbourne Road. Open farmland lies to the west and south, while to the east the site fronts onto Legbourne Road, providing a direct connection from the A157 towards Louth town centre. Opposite the site are a number of local businesses, including a garden centre, car dealership, and engineering firm. Within the site itself are existing farm buildings, outbuildings, and a small number of trees and hedgerows, which contribute to the site’s character. The site sits beyond the Lincolnshire Wolds AONB and wider infrastructure constraints that limit growth in other parts of Louth.

Development Highlights

  • New Homes – A carefully designed mix of dwelling types and sizes to meet a range of housing needs.
  • Green & Play Spaces – Extensive open space, a play area and improved habitats for wildlife.
  • Sustainable Transport – Access from Legbourne Road with safe pedestrian and cycle routes linking through the site.
  • Drainage & Climate Resilience – Sustainable drainage integrated with open space, helping manage surface water and improve habitats.
  • Economic & Environmental Benefits – Supporting the full relocation of Laughton’s of Louth to their existing base at Manby Airfield, unlocking synergies with the proposed Manby BGE Ltd Biorefinery.
